The concert is entitled <em>\u2026until\u2026<\/em> and they are Gunnlaugur Bj\u00f6rnsson, guitarist and Hafd\u00eds Vigf\u00fasd\u00f3ttir, flautist who will be performing. They will play two pieces together and will also perform several solo works with a backing of electronic sounds. The programme is composed of works by Clarence Barlow, Halld\u00f3r Sm\u00e1rason, Einojuhani Rautavaara and Toru Takemitsu. The work by the Japanese composer Takemitsu, <em>Towards the sea,<\/em> was composed for Greenpeace and their campaign to save whales, but it is one of the largest compositions ever written for guitar and flute and is based on the novel. <em>Moby Dick<\/em> by Melville. During the concert, Gunnlaugur switches between three guitars and Hafd\u00eds plays three flutes: an alto flute, a transverse flute and a piccolo flute.<\/p>\n<p>Flutist Hafd\u00eds Vigf\u00fasd\u00f3ttir and guitarist Gunnlaugur Bj\u00f6rnsson both completed their advanced examinations from the K\u00f3pavogur Music School at a young age, were recognised by the municipality of K\u00f3pavogur as \u201eoutstanding artists\u201d, and subsequently pursued musical studies abroad.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gunnlaugur Bj\u00f6rnsson,<\/strong> A guitarist, he recently graduated with a B.Mus degree from the Manhattan School of Music, where he received the Andr\u00e9s Segovia Award for outstanding achievement in guitar studies. He has received various accolades, including the N\u00f3tan 2010 award, a finalist in the 2013 ASTA competition, and was the winner of the Lilian Fuchs chamber music competition in the same year. Gunnlaugur recently gained admission to the Master's programme at the prestigious Yale School of Music in the United States.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hafd\u00eds Vigf\u00fasd\u00f3ttir, flautist,<\/strong> She holds a B.Mus degree from the Iceland Academy of the Arts and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. She also received the highest marks in her final examination from the Conservatoire in Rueil-Malmaison, France, after completing a three-year course there, and finally a master's degree from the Norwegian University of Music. In 2009, Hafd\u00eds won second prize in the international music competition \u201eLe Parnasse\u201d in Paris. Hafd\u00eds has appeared as a soloist with Ungf\u00f3n\u00edan, the Amateur Symphony Orchestra and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, and has also played as a substitute with the latter. She played with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK) during her studies, as well as with Ungdomsymfonikerne and Orchestra NoVe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soundtrack<\/strong> is a concert series dedicated to music from the 20th and 21st centuries, where the unique imagination and artistic struggle of composers lead listeners into previously uncharted territory. The name of the concert series is a reference to the smallest meaningful sound units of languages, basic units that can be pieced together in different ways to create an attempt at meaning. Here, Hafnarborg is presenting a concert series intended to showcase diverse works by leading contemporary composers. The focus will be on works that are best enjoyed in the intimate setting offered by the Hafnarborg venue, a space that is considered unique among the concert halls of the capital region.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tickets for the concert are sold at the Hafnarborg reception desk during the museum's opening hours and one hour before the concert.
