On Tuesday, 7th April at 12 noon, the bass singer and Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur native, Sigur\u00f0ur Skagfj\u00f6r\u00f0 Steingr\u00edmsson, will perform at a lunchtime concert in Hafnarborg, accompanied by pianist Ant\u00f3nia Hevesi.\n<\/p>\n
The concert entitled\u00a0With the rising sun\u00a0<\/em>Sigur\u00f0ur will perform Icelandic songs by Sigvaldi Kaldal\u00f3ns and Sveinbj\u00f6rn Sveinbj\u00f6rnsson, but also Old Man River<\/em> from the musical Showboat and\u00a0As a little boy,<\/em>\u00a0aria from the opera\u00a0The Merry Wives of Windsor<\/em> by Otto Nicolai. These are the penultimate lunchtime concerts of the season, but in May the soprano Sigr\u00fan P\u00e1lmad\u00f3ttir will perform an Italian programme. Earlier in the concert season, Elmar Gilbertsson, Hl\u00edn P\u00e9tursd\u00f3ttir, Kristj\u00e1n J\u00f3hannsson, Hanna \u00de\u00f3ra Gu\u00f0brandsd\u00f3ttir and Vi\u00f0ar Gunnarsson have performed.<\/p>\n Sigur\u00f0ur Skagfj\u00f6r\u00f0 studied singing at the Reykjav\u00edk School of Singing, where he was taught by, among others, M\u00f3r Magn\u00fasson, Kristinn Sigmundsson, Gu\u00f0mundur J\u00f3nsson and Katr\u00edn Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir. Sigur\u00f0ur has performed in concerts at home and abroad, and has sung with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Icelandic Opera. There he has sung the roles of Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Gremin in Eugene Onegin, Baron Douphol in La Traviata, the Bonze in Madama Butterfly, and Frank, the prison governor, in The Bat. With the Symphony Orchestra, Sigur\u00f0ur sang the role of Lodovico in Otello and the part of Jesus in the St John Passion, staged at Langholtskirkja. \nDuring the spring term 2015, Hafnarborg's lunchtime concerts will be held on the last Tuesday of the month. The concerts begin at 12 noon and last for about half an hour; they are open to all, subject to available seating. The venue opens at 11.30 a.m.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
