The Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Youth Council held its annual youth assembly at the Vitan youth centre in L\u00e6kjarsk\u00f3li on the evening of Monday, 13th April. This is an opportunity for young people in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur to put forward suggestions, which the youth council then develops further and presents to the local council. The event led to good discussions and various proposals were put forward, but to begin with, the young people wrote ideas on yellow slips of paper, which were then discussed in detail in small groups.<\/p>\n
The Youth Council is composed of two representatives from each primary school in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, three from each secondary school, and three representatives are selected through the youth centre, H\u00fasi\u00f0, representing those who are not in school or who attend a school in another municipality.<\/p>\n
The first Youth Assembly was held in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur in 2004, and many of the teenagers' proposals later came to fruition, such as a youth fare on the bus and new water slides at the Su\u00f0urb\u00e6r swimming pool.
