The \u00d6ldut\u00fanssk\u00f3li Choir celebrated its anniversary in style at our school yesterday, Sunday, as it marked 50 years since the choir was founded.\u00a0 The Headteacher of \u00d6ldut\u00fanssk\u00f3li, Valdimar V\u00ed\u00f0isson, gave a speech in which he described the importance of having such a strong and good choir in the school. He thanked Egi Fri\u00f0leifsson, the founder and former choirmaster, and the current choirmaster, Brynhildur Au\u00f0bjargard\u00f3ttir, for their excellent work. The Mayor honoured the choir with his presence and spoke fondly about the choir, the work of the choir, and its importance to Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.\u00a0 He also mentioned how important parents are to such work. On behalf of the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, he presented the choir with 100,000 kr\u00f3nur as a birthday gift. The choirmaster, Brynhildur, said a few words and the birthday song was sung.\u00a0 This was followed by performances from the younger and older choirs, which were very well received. <\/p>\n

After the formal programme, people had the opportunity to view old items from the choir's history, photographs and film clips from several singing tours, shown by Halld\u00f3r \u00c1rni Sveinsson.\u00a0 People enjoyed birthday cake provided by the school and pastries brought by parents of choir children and former choir members.\u00a0 To mark the occasion, a splendid anniversary magazine was published for people to browse through. Approximately 200 people honoured the choir on the day, including Haukur Helgason, the former headteacher of \u00d6ldut\u00fanssk\u00f3li, who attended with his daughter, Alda Hauksd\u00f3ttir.\u00a0 Former choir children from \u00d6ldut\u00fanssk\u00f3li were particularly pleased to see their old headmaster again.
