The Mayor of the Borough of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and the management of Gagnaveita Reykjav\u00edkur have signed a letter of intent for the fibre-optic connection of all homes in the town.<\/p>\n
Fibre-optic cable now reaches around 2,100 homes in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. Following the letter of intent, a further 500 homes will be connected by the end of the year, and a total of around ten thousand homes in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur will be connected to the fibre-optic network by the end of 2018. This includes all homes within the town's built-up area.<\/p>\n
Haraldur L. Haraldsson, the Mayor, welcomes the statement, as it is important that residents of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur have a wide range of choices in telecommunications. \u201eThe way internet usage and other forms of telecommunications are developing in people's homes means that it is very important for a variety of options to be available. That is why it is a great benefit for residents to have the Fibre Optic network connected to every home in the town. Of course, its rollout is also important for the businesses in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur,\u201c says Haraldur.<\/p>\n
The fibre optic cable is a high-quality connection for homes, offering high bandwidth to meet the increasing demands of households. \u201eAll homes in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur that are now being connected to the fibre network are offered an internet speed of 500 megabits, which can later be doubled using the same equipment. The fibre itself supports much higher speeds when required,\u201d says Erling Freyr Gu\u00f0mundsson, Managing Director of Gagnaveitan. \u201eFibre is the future solution for data transmission,\u201c he adds. Erling says connecting the homes in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur is a challenging task. \u201eThis beautiful town site presents challenges in laying the Fibre-optic cable underground, and we will resolve them in close cooperation with the local authorities and residents,\u201c says Erling.
