Yesterday, over 40 nursery and primary school teachers in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur attended the K-PALS course, a teaching method for reading training guided by peer support. The course took place at Hraunvallask\u00f3li.<\/p>\n

The School Office is organising the course in collaboration with the S\u00cdSL project, which holds the licence for the use and teaching of PALS in Iceland. K-PALS and PALS courses have previously been held for staff of nurseries and primary schools in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. Offering a reading instruction and coaching course to teachers in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur this term is part of the education and leisure services' focus on supporting the reading development of the town's children.<\/p>\n

K-PALS is intended for nursery schools and the earliest years of primary school. There is also a PALS programme that follows on from K-PALS and is intended for pupils in the lower and middle years of primary school (Years 2-6). The PALS teaching method for reading instruction is an American approach that has been translated into Icelandic. PALS is an acronym for \u201ePeer Assisting Learning Strategies\u201c, which translates into Icelandic as P\u00d6R A\u00d0 L\u00c6RA SAMAN.
