The piano soloists with the orchestra are \u00c1rni Halld\u00f3rsson, Hugr\u00fan Britta Kjartansd\u00f3ttir and Rebekka Fri\u00f0riksd\u00f3ttir, all of whom are students at the Sigursveinn T\u00f3nsk\u00f3li.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;The conductor is Gu\u00f0mundur \u00d3li Gunnarsson.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<b>The programme includes the following works<\/b>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>J\u00f3n \u00c1sgeirsson: Ancient Dances \u2013 a selection<\/li>\n<li>Dmitri Shostakovich: Piano Concerto No. 2<\/li>\n<li>Robert Schumann: Symphony No. 4<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>A collaborative project between four music schools<\/h4>\n<p>The Symphony Orchestra of the Music Schools is a collaborative project between four music schools in the capital region: the Music School of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, the Music School of K\u00f3pavogur, the Music School of Gar\u00f0ab\u00e6r and the Sigursveinn D. Kristinsson School of Music. The orchestra is made up of 80 young music students, most of whom are of primary and secondary school age. The orchestra rehearses in S\u00f6lvh\u00f3ll, the hall of the Iceland Academy of the Arts. The Symphony Orchestra of the Music Schools was founded in the autumn of 2004.\u00a0 Each January, the students meet with the conductor and vocal coaches to rehearse a concert programme, which is performed in a concert at the end of the month. The Schools' Symphony Orchestra provides training in playing in a full orchestra for those who are advanced in their musical studies, and it is an important platform for orchestral training under the guidance of recognised musicians and conductors. Likewise, outstanding instrumentalists from among the students are given the opportunity to perform a solo with the orchestra.
