The children have plenty to keep them busy and the joy of play is not
a long way off. Nursery school teachers encourage the children to connect words and things.
and nouns therefore adorn everything in sight indoors. All learning goes
steps in and grabs every opportunity that arises in day-to-day work to
to implement any kind of knowledge. For example, one could mention get-togethers where
The children sing, listen, rhyme and more. Then there is the outdoor play where words are
Connected to something tangible. The changing room is also a good place to learn.
„“Get the red jumper“, 'hang up the brown coat'. It works with the concepts of virtue and
The children learn to treat each other with consideration and respect.

When the foundation was laid for the development project in Tjarnarási
parents were encouraged to apply for library cards for their children. Great
There was an increase in visits to the museum and a large proportion of the children said that for them
would be read most evenings of the week.

Every day, the children receive literacy and language stimulation in some form.
picture. The book „Lubbi finds a bone“ opens
to the world of sounds and letters. Each week, the children learn one sound,
examine where Lubbi goes and the children are extremely interested in land and sound. In the application
The nurseries' application for a grant for a development project states that the emphasis is
laid on „substantive and purposeful dialogue, that the children are spoken to in their own
on the basis of their interests and experience, and from that, because this is how it is possible to push
under the children's expression and joy in storytelling. Bryndís points to the necessity of this to
To stimulate the children's enthusiasm for learning, they have access to so-called theme boxes.
which contain items related to a specific role-playing game as well as appropriate
textual material. There you can find items that
e.g. connect to a medical centre, a post office and a restaurant. The little students bring with them
ideas about how to play with the material, they go into
a field trip where they collect into a pot and gain experience to play
I can see the potential. This work reflects the children's experiences and imagination.
Everyone gets to have their say and take part. Various things are done to expand vocabulary.
of the children. On the wall hang old rhymes from the nation's heritage. In addition to reading
The difficult words are taken out of the text and placed on for them and with the children.
space to explain in more detail. This gives listeners an insight into Icelandic language usage.
from times past. The children then draw pictures in accordance with the theme of the rhyme.

There is not enough room to list all the good and effective things.
work carried out in Tjarnarási but the promotion that Skíma received does not mention it.
Needless to say, the staff are passionate about their work and give it their all.
that the children make progress and enjoy their time at school.

Skíma, málgagn Samtaka móðurmálskennara, fór nýlega í heimsókn á leikskólann Tjarnarás í Hafnarfirði og fékk kynningu á starfseminni og þeim áhugaverðu og uppbyggjandi þróunarverkefnum sem í gangi eru innan veggja leikskólans. Viðtalið í leikskólunum: Leikskólinn Tjarnarás Gaman er að koma inn á leikskólann Tjarnarás því að þar iðar allt af lífi og kátínu.
