A staff group of 900 from nursery and primary schools in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur attended a joint training session on an organisational day today. The training was related to the town's literacy project, Reading is the game of life<\/em>, where the subject was the fundamentals of reading.<\/p>\n

An approach based on the age of children<\/h3>\n

The training was divided into five parts, with the subject matter approached according to the age group the staff member primarily teaches. The age groups were younger children in nursery school (2-3 years old), older children in nursery school (4-5 years old), primary school pupils (6-9 years old), middle school (10-12 years old) and secondary school (13-15 years old), as well as specialist teachers. The training took place at the premises of five primary schools in the town.<\/p>\n

Discussion and dialogue within the schools' professional groups<\/h3>\n

Following the training, discussion groups were set up. In the nurseries, staff went back to their own schools after the training, but the primary school staff met across schools and discussed matters in professional groups, e.g. science teachers, year group tutors, music teachers, and so on. The training was well received. The training was prepared by a steering group, the Committee on Improved Academic Achievement, which operates under the Education and Leisure Services department. It is composed of staff from the department and representatives of nursery and primary school headteachers, seven members in total.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
