The ceremony took place at the B\u00e6jarb\u00ed\u00f3 in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur to a full house. The deadline for submitting nominations was Monday, 14th March, and a total of 12 nominations were received for 11 individuals who have been outstanding in their work for the benefit of children and young people in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. The selection for the award was made by the board of the Parents\u201c Council of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.\u00a0Arnfr\u00ed\u00f0ur Arnard\u00f3ttir and J\u00f3hann \u00d3skar Borg\u00fe\u00f3rsson received the most votes and thus won the 2016 Hvatningarver\u00f0laun Foreldrar\u00e1\u00f0s Hafnarfjar\u00f0ar. The trophy they received was the artwork '\u00c1lfar og menn' by the visual artist Soff\u00eda S\u00e6mundsd\u00f3ttir.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Others who were nominated are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Agnes Alda Magn\u00fasd\u00f3ttir, Supervisor of the After-School Club at the Hjalli School<\/li>\n<li>Anna Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir, Librarian at Hraunvallar School and administrator of the school's Facebook page.<\/li>\n<li>Elias J\u00f3nsson, coach of the boys' under-11 handball team at Haukar<\/li>\n<li>Klaus Jurgen Okh, swimming coach at SH<\/li>\n<li>Kristmundur Gu\u00f0mundsson, Head Coach of the Under-6 to Under-8 teams at FH Football Club<\/li>\n<li>\u00d3mar Fri\u00f0riksson, coach of children's handball at FH<\/li>\n<li>Sara P\u00e1lmad\u00f3ttir runs Mosann (the Hraunvallask\u00f3li community club) and Hraunsel (childcare).<\/li>\n<li>Sigur\u00f0ur M\u00e1r Gu\u00f0mundsson, Headteacher of Hraunvallask\u00f3li<\/li>\n<li>Thorsteinn Emilsson, caretaker, cook and leisure activities staff member at Hjalli Primary School<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>A valuable meeting place for young people from Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur<\/h4>\n<p>Arnfr\u00ed\u00f0ur and J\u00f3hann received the award for their involvement in the founding of the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Skateboard Club and their contribution to it. The Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Skateboard Club was founded on 9 July 2012 and joined \u00cdBH on 4 December 2015. The club has always been active. The Surfing Club adds to the range of leisure activities for children and young people in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and is a valuable meeting place for many young people in the town.<\/p>\n<h4>\u201eThe number of \u201clost children' is decreasing<\/h4>\n<p>In connection with the presentation of the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Parents\u201e Council's Encouragement Awards, an educational meeting was held on drugs and young people in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. Police officer Gu\u00f0mundur Fylkisson, who is searching for the \u201clost children', Police Officer Helgi Gunnarsson and Geir Bjarnason, Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur's Sports and Leisure Officer, discussed the situation among our young people in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and what steps parents can take to better look after their children. \u00a0New data show that overall, substance use among children in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur is decreasing, but at the same time, cannabis use in Year 10 has been on the rise. \u00a0Further analysis of the increased cannabis use is underway, specifically to isolate the problem so that it can be addressed in collaboration with schools and parents.<\/p>\n<h4>About the Parents' Council of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur<\/h4>\n<p>The Parents' Council of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur is a consultative forum and an advocate for the parents of primary school children in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. The role of the Parents' Council is to work on the common affairs of the schools and to provide advice on various matters concerning school and family issues.
