Last year, the idea arose among representatives of the Youth Council
\nHafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur is to invite another youth council for a visit. First, there was discussion about
\nto invite a youth council in a neighbouring municipality for a visit with the aim of familiarising themselves with the work and working methods of another youth council. During this
\nAfter some thought, the Hornarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Youth Council contacted the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Youth Council. The Hornfir\u00f0ingar arrived in the area in April and stayed at H\u00fasi\u00f0, Sta\u00f0arberg 6. Together, the group attended an UMF\u00cd course \u2013 \u201cShow What You're Made Of', played team-building games, had a tour of The House, went swimming, and took part in peer education, as well as cooking a meal together. \u00a0Visits like these create opportunities for the youth councils, and by extension the young people themselves, to learn from one another and share experiences and knowledge. Such informal learning is conducive to enhancing personal, social and professional development.

Fifteen representatives from the Hornafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Youth Council and the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Youth Council attended the course \u201eShow What You're Made Of\u201c together. The young people did exercises and received training from Sab\u00edna Steinunn Halld\u00f3rsd\u00f3ttir, a national representative for UMF\u00cd, in public speaking, giving speeches and working with meeting procedures.\u00a0Sab\u00edna has extensive experience working with teenagers and young people on educational and preventative issues; for example, she organised the UMF\u00cd youth conference, 'Young People and Democracy', which was held in Selfoss in mid-March.\u00a0The course was part of a joint training day for the youth councils, and they went on to other activities later in the day.<\/p>\n
The course \u201eShow What You're Made Of\u201c is a social education programme offered by UMF\u00cd to everyone who wants to take part. The course covers various aspects related to public speaking, such as how to speak up, demeanour, delivery, vocal use, organising a speech, and more. The course also covers various aspects of meeting management, including rules of procedure, convening meetings, meeting organisation, agendas, discussions, handling motions, voting, and more.
