Early voting for the presidential election, which takes place on 25 June 2016, began at the Office of the County Governor for the Capital Region on Saturday, 30 April. \u00a0From 9 June, voting will take place exclusively at Perlan in \u00d6skjuhl\u00ed\u00f0, Reykjav\u00edk. It will be open daily from 10:00 to 22:00. However, it will be closed on Friday 17 June.<\/p>\n

On polling day, Saturday 25 June, the polling stations will be open from 10:00 to 17:00. 10:00 and 17:00 for voters who are on the electoral roll outside the capital region, says a notice from the County Registrar of the Capital Region.<\/p>\n

Who has the right to vote?<\/h4>\n
    \n
  • All Icelandic citizens who have reached the age of 18 on polling day and are domiciled in Iceland are entitled to vote in the presidential election on 25 June 2016.<\/li>\n
  • Also entitled to vote are those Icelandic citizens who have moved their legal residence abroad after 1 December 2007 and have reached the age of 18 on polling day.<\/li>\n
  • Those Icelandic citizens who moved their legal residence abroad before 1 December 2007 are entitled to vote, provided they applied to the National Registry of Iceland before 1 December 2015.<\/li>\n
  • Foreign nationals do not have the right to vote in the presidential election and are therefore not on the electoral register. The only exception is Danish citizens, who have the right to vote under Act No. 85\/1946, i.e. those who were resident in Iceland on 6 March 1946 or at any time in the 10 years preceding that date.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • Voters can check where they are registered to vote in the presidential election on 25 June 2016. Entering a National Registration Number brings up the name, registered address and municipality. In many cases, information about the polling station and polling division is also displayed. <\/li>\n
    • Voters are registered to vote in the local authority where they have their registered home address three weeks before polling day, 4 June 2016. Changing your home address after this time will not change your registration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
