{"id":13050,"date":"2016-06-14T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-06-14T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hafnarfjordur.is\/umhverfismennt-og-utikennsla\/"},"modified":"2022-10-25T08:59:29","modified_gmt":"2022-10-25T08:59:29","slug":"environmental-education-and-outdoor-teaching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hafnarfjordur.is\/en\/umhverfismennt-og-utikennsla\/","title":{"rendered":"Environmental education and outdoor teaching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A diverse education that promotes<br \/>\nunder child development and their connection with nature<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The nursery's oldest class<br \/>\nIn Lundur, at Nor\u00f0urberg, yesterday received the recognition of the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Education Council for the year<br \/>\n2016 for a varied and interesting school programme for the oldest children of the nursery school. The emphasis<br \/>\nThe work has involved environmental education and outdoor teaching. Staff have to<br \/>\nIn addition to the outdoor learning, a workshop was developed offering music and textile education.<br \/>\nand visual arts. &nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Outdoor teaching in Lund is extremely varied. It works with<br \/>\nthe children in special projects on the grounds around the nursery, in addition to which<br \/>\nTargeted so-called lava field trips are taken, educational trips into the lava field for<br \/>\nin front of Hrafnista, where the children tackle various tasks that involve<br \/>\ndiverse fields of study. On the nursery's grounds is an open fire pit which staff and<br \/>\nThe partners built it a few years ago. The fire pit is used a lot for teaching and<br \/>\nis a great addition to the other options the local area has to offer<br \/>\noffer. The accreditation to Lundar concerns<br \/>\nso that children there receive a varied curriculum that promotes their development<br \/>\ngenerally, and not least regarding their connection with and respect for nature. There were<br \/>\nFanney D. Halld\u00f3rsd\u00f3ttir, Director of Education and Leisure Services<br \/>\nHafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur municipality and R\u00f3sa Gu\u00f0bjartsd\u00f3ttir, chair of the education board, who presented the staff with<br \/>\nNordurb\u00e6r's recognition by the education council, but the nomination for recognition came from<br \/>\nparents of the children at the school. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Minimise the use of<br \/>\nPlastic in everyday life<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of June, the nursery was presented with the Green Flag for the seventh time.<br \/>\nthe switch. The Green Flag is an environmental label that is respected all over the world as<br \/>\na symbol of good environmental education and environmental policy in schools. The flag is awarded to schools in<br \/>\nin the wake of projects intended to enhance the awareness of students, teachers and<br \/>\nFamilies on environmental issues. This winter, the nursery worked on the theme \u201eConsumption\/Plastic Consumption\u201c.<br \/>\nThe aim of the project was to minimise all use of plastic in daily life and make<br \/>\nChildren and adults became more aware of its harmful effects on the environment. All age groups worked on a variety of projects.<br \/>\nover the winter. Staff of the oldest children<br \/>\nworked in partnership with parents and\/or carers with a small homework task. All<br \/>\nThe children were given reusable bags and collected all the plastic that came in.<br \/>\nat home for three days. It turned out that each family returns just over 29<br \/>\nkg of plastic each year. In the nursery school, there are 137 families who let them from<br \/>\ncollects approximately 4 tonnes of plastic per year. Part of the project was to discuss<br \/>\nwhat could replace plastic and whether plastic always needs to be used. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Since 2008, the Education Committee of the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur<br \/>\nAwarding 1-3 awards per year to individual school projects that are considered to<br \/>\nexemplary and characteristic of creative school work in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. The latter<br \/>\nOver the years, numerous projects have received the award, projects that have had<br \/>\nPromoting initiative, professionalism and responsibility, and fostering collaboration,<br \/>\nutilisation and development in school activities and pedagogy.
