On Sunday, 3rd July, 3SH will hold the 2016 Triathlon Day in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. In recent years, the competition has been held entirely at the Valla area and on the Kr\u00fdsuv\u00edkurveg in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, but after much deliberation regarding its scope, nature and potential of the competition, it has been decided to make it bigger and thereby expand the competition area and open up opportunities for more people to enjoy and take part. This year, the competition will extend into the centre of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and finish there.  <\/em><\/p>\n

The triathlon day begins at 8 a.m. at \u00c1svallalaug with the swim. The first competitors are expected to complete the swim in approximately 20 minutes, after which there will be controlled traffic for the cycle from \u00c1svallalaug out to Kr\u00edsuv\u00edkurveg. Several distances are on offer, and there will be further starts for the swim at 9:00 and 9:30, depending on whether you are taking part in a half-Ironman, Olympic triathlon, sprint triathlon or team relay. Some traffic delays can be expected when the waves start, and also when they return to the swimming pool. The cycling leg of the Triathlon Day takes place mainly on Kr\u00fdsuv\u00edkurvegur, where competitors will cycle up to six laps, depending on the distance they are taking part in. Traffic management will be in place on Kr\u00fdsuv\u00edkurvegur from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Competitors then cycle as the road leads from Kr\u00fdsuv\u00edkurveg down to Hafnarfjar\u00f0arkirkja, through \u00c1storg, down Strandgata to Fjar\u00f0artorg and from there to the next transition area, which is at Hafnarfjar\u00f0arkirkja. From V\u00f6llur to Hafnarfjar\u00f0arkirkja, the speed of the cyclists can be considerable, and it is therefore necessary to close the route from \u00c1storg down Strandgata all the way to Fjar\u00f0artorg, or the entire Strandgata northbound from 10:15 \u2013 13:15 to ensure the safety of all concerned. Strandgata will be open heading south. \u00a0All those travelling through the area are asked to be patient and considerate during the competition. Every effort will be made to minimise street closures, but traffic delays are likely between 10:15 and 13:15. <\/p>\n

The transition area from bike to run will, as mentioned, be in the car park at Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Church, where part of the car park will be reserved for the competition. The third and final part of the triathlon, the running leg, will take place on Strandst\u00edg in the centre of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, and the prize-giving ceremony at the end of the competition will be held on Strandst\u00edg, opposite the Sports Hall on Strandgata. The path will be closed to other traffic from 10:20 to 16:00 this Sunday.<\/p>\n

We encourage everyone who is interested to take an active part in Triathlon Day. This can be done by taking part in the competition itself, or by actively cheering on and supporting the participants.<\/p>\n
