The problem is not new but seems to have been accelerating in recent weeks and months, causing breakdowns of pumps and other equipment. All this leads to costs that could otherwise be used for the development and maintenance of the equipment. The situation has been especially bad in the Vellir district recently and therefore this message is specifically tailored to residents and employees of companies in the Vellir district. The content of the message, however, applies to all residents and employees of companies in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dear residents and users of the sewer in the Vellir district<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wastewater from the Vellir district in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur runs through a small pumping station next to Fl\u00e9ttuvellir and Klukkuvellir. From there, the wastewater is pumped into collection systems, passing through the pump and the plant in Hraunav\u00edk, east of RioTintoAlcan in Straumsv\u00edk. In recent weeks, the pumps at Fl\u00e9ttuvellir have been blocked and damaged, causing them to stop because hygiene products (disposable cleaning cloths, rags etc.) which SHOULD NOT be flushed down the drain enter the sewer system, wrapping around the impeller and causing inconvenience for residents and high expenses for the sewer system.
