Seven years ago, the population of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur was 25,890. Today, the figure has risen to 28,450 and is still increasing. Demand for housing in the area is high, and changes to the plan, infrastructure development and the sale of plots are aimed at meeting this demand to an increasing extent and accommodating the growing population. Six blocks of flats are now being advertised in Skar\u00f0shl\u00ed\u00f0, a neighbourhood sheltered by the slope to the south and west of \u00c1sfjall. These are plots for 18 blocks of flats with a total of 167 flats, which are particularly suitable for families with children.<\/em><\/p>\n

The part of the Skar\u00f0shl\u00ed\u00f0ar area that is now being advertised is approximately 30 hectares in size, up the slope south and west of \u00c1sfjall. The slope faces south and is therefore sheltered from northerly and easterly winds. Another area higher up the slope, intended for detached, semi-detached and terraced houses, is in the design and planning process, which is scheduled to be completed at the beginning of next year. The design of the Skar\u00f0shl\u00ed\u00f0ar neighbourhood as a whole seeks to follow the principles of sustainable development, a green aesthetic and an environmentally friendly layout, thereby creating a desirable place to live. The blocks of flats will be the focal point of the neighbourhood, and the development will then spread upwards the hillside, with terraced and semi-detached houses at the bottom and detached houses higher up where the gradient is steeper. Today, around 5,500 people live in V\u00f6llunum, most of whom are between the ages of 21 and 40.<\/p>\n\"SkardshlidHafnarfjordur\"\n

A significant increase in the number of residents and businesses in V\u00f6llum calls for a change in planning and the development of infrastructure.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Recently approved changes to the master plan and detailed plan for the Skar\u00f0shl\u00ed\u00f0arhverfi area include, among other things, that a larger part of the area will become residential, and the part designated for a health centre, nursing home, school and nursery will instead become a primary school and nursery.\u00a0 A significant increase in the area's population and large birth cohorts necessitate adaptation and development. The Bjarkalundur nursery school recently opened on Bjarkavellir, a four-class nursery school for 100 children. It is hoped that construction on the first phase of a new primary school in Skar\u00f0shl\u00ed\u00f0 will begin in autumn 2017. Hraunvallar School is currently the only primary school in the area and has become one of the largest in the country. \u201eA rethink and a shift in focus in urban development call for changes to the municipalities\u201c planning. The last few months and years have been spent reorganising this area in Skar\u00f0shl\u00ed\u00f0, which is now being advertised. At the same time, we are building the necessary infrastructure, such as a nursery and a primary school, so that we can welcome new residents and ensure good services for those who live in the area.
