Homework help is now
\nAvailable for students with an international background in Years 9-11 in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.
\nThe project is intended for students who need help with their homework and are interested.
\nto meet once a week and receive help from volunteers. The homework help
\nis available every Wednesday from 16:30 \u2013 18:00 at Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Library.<\/i><\/p>\n
The aim of the project is to create a framework where students with
\nStudents from foreign backgrounds receive help with their homework. The project began in the autumn as soon as
\nThe primary schools started teaching and the first week of the school year was spent catching up.
\noutside of that group of students, need the assistance. The students have now turned up
\nto the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Library on several occasions and received assistance from volunteers from
\nFlensborg and the Red Cross helping with their homework (often all their homework
\nfor the week). Most of the volunteers
\nare secondary school and university students, and so it wasn't long ago that they themselves were
\nto learn what they are helping students with. That is how the volunteers are
\n\u201eFresh\u201c in what they guide them in and they connect with the kids really well.<\/p>\n
Increased skill in
\nin a wide-ranging field<\/b><\/p>\n
The project is designed to ensure that those children who
\nnot getting help with their studies at home for when they come to be at an advantage
\nacademically and not least socially. The arrangement is nothing new and
\nhas experience elsewhere demonstrated increased academic ability, increased social skills,
\nbetter Icelandic skills and improved participants' self-confidence and well-being at school as
