In recent years, the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur has been working steadily to lower the admission age for nursery schools so that children begin their nursery school attendance in the year they turn 18 months old. In January 2017, the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur offered places in nursery school to 16 and 17-month-old children, born in April and May 2015. \u00a0From autumn 2017, children born from January to May 2016 will be offered a place in a nursery school, and the youngest children will therefore be 14 and 15 months old when they start.<\/p>\n
With this, the Municipality of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur has significantly increased the level of service for families with children. From the turn of the year, subsidies for childminders were also significantly increased, and a special subsidy is paid from the age of 18 months, making the services of childminders a genuine option for parents of young children.<\/p>\n
These measures are in line with the decision of the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Education Board of 1 June 2015, which was approved by the Borough Council, on behalf of the Municipal Council, on 13 August of the same year. The admission age has been lowered by two months each year at every admission, with the aim that children are 18 months old in the year they are admitted to the nursery school.<\/p>\n
There are seven infant units operating at nurseries in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur today, out of a total of 17 nurseries.<\/p>\n
