Eva \u00c1g\u00fasta Arad\u00f3ttir was the mountain queen of the town of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur in
\nthe national day. Eva is the first trans woman to serve as the national spokeswoman at
\nOfficial celebrations. Eva, who is a native of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur through and through, read a poem by
\nBrynd\u00edsi Bj\u00f6rgvinsd\u00f3ttur. The Valkyrie is a symbol or personification of Iceland. The Valkyrie
\nfirst appeared at Icelandic Day in Winnipeg, Canada, in 1924 and afterwards
\nSince the establishment of the republic in Iceland in 1944, a woman in a national costume has traditionally delivered the speech.
