The programme began with Headteacher Hr\u00f6nn Berg\u00fe\u00f3rsd\u00f3ttir welcoming everyone, followed by speeches from L\u00e1rus L. Bl\u00f6ndal, President of the Icelandic Sports Federation, Ottar Propp\u00e9, Minister of Health, and R\u00f3sa Gu\u00f0bjartsd\u00f3ttir, Chair of the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Education Council, delivered short speeches in which they emphasised the importance of using active modes of transport to and from school and of paying close attention to the road safety of young road users.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The students then performed a fine singing performance to the accompaniment of a guitar, and among the audience in the hall were smartly dressed police officers. After the music and speeches, the project was formally launched with a symbolic walk by students, guests, staff and partners through V\u00ed\u00f0ista\u00f0at\u00fan in glorious sunshine.<\/p>\n<p>The organisations behind the project in Iceland are the Icelandic Olympic and Sports Association, the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, the National Commissioner of Police, the Civil Defence Association Landsbj\u00f6rg, the Transport Authority and the national association Home-School.
