Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Municipality and the Marketing Office of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur hosted a successful conference.
\non the situation and opportunities in the tourism industry over the weekend. The conference took place in
\nThe harbour town and the title was \u201eThe Strategy and Position of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur in Tourism\u201c.
\nAround one hundred people attended the conference, which was intended as a prelude to
\nfuture work where the emphasis will be on vision and strategic direction for
\nthe town. Not only as a destination for foreign visitors but also for those
\nwho live and run businesses there. <\/p>\n
Professionals from both academia and the travel industry gave presentations and subsequently
\nThere were interesting panel discussions. The focus was on branding strategies and
\ntourism policies, how they are developed, how they are implemented and action plans
\nwhich they must follow, and how they are worked with and implemented. <\/p>\n
The common thread in the speeches of the keynote speakers was
\nTwofold. On the one hand, that a municipality's branding or branding can never
\nbe based on anything other than the true experience of the visitors and residents of each municipality or
\ndestination. However, that tourism must grow and flourish within a framework
\nwhich does not test the limits of either the inhabitants or nature. It was, in fact, a common theme.

Helgi S. Gunnarsson, CEO of Regin, then presented the company's plans to build a hotel at
\nThe Strand. Helgi presented drawings of a prospective building which is designed
\nas many smaller houses rather than one large one, to fit better into the street scene of Strandgatan.
\nAccording to Helgi, the company is still looking for a suitable party to run a hotel in
\nthe building but said he felt a great interest in the project and that Regin
\nwould be to prepare the project with full vigour. <\/p>\n
The chairman was Thor B\u00e6ring \u00d3lafsson, one of the owners of Gaman Fer\u00f0a and
\na board member of the Marketing Bureau of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. The conference was open to everyone both
\nattended by professionals and townspeople interested in the subject, and numbered around one hundred
