Gu\u00f0r\u00fan needs no introduction to Icelanders, but she has written works of fiction and created characters that the nation has come to love over the years, such as P\u00e1ll Vilhj\u00e1lmsson, the twin brothers J\u00f3n Oddur and J\u00f3n Bjarni, and many others besides.\u00a0Through her writing over the years, Gu\u00f0r\u00fan has secured her place as one of the most beloved and popular authors of our time. Her body of fiction numbers close to thirty, and her books have been published in numerous languages. In addition, she has written several plays.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Children's author Bergr\u00fan \u00cdris S\u00e6varsd\u00f3ttir from Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, who presided over the opening ceremony of the Book Festival- and Film Festival this year, and R\u00f3sa Gu\u00f0bjartsd\u00f3ttir, chair of the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Education Council, visited Gu\u00f0r\u00fan this week and presented her with a token of appreciation for her invaluable contribution to the community.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the opening of the Book and Film Festival at the Town Cinema, Bergr\u00fan \u00cdris read from Gu\u00f0r\u00fan's book, \u201cA Love Story from the Mountains\u201c, in front of a large group of nursery school children. A varied programme has been running over the past few days; among other things, all children in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur were invited to the cinema to see J\u00f3n Odd and J\u00f3n Bjarni, A historical walk was held through the south town, where Gu\u00f0r\u00fan's brother, Leifur Helgason, led a group of enthusiasts through the settings of some of her books, telling them about events at their childhood home on J\u00f3fr\u00ed\u00f0arsta\u00f0arvegur and much more.
