The containers are intended primarily for the disposal of timber and iron from businesses in each respective area. A staff clean-up day will be held on 18 April, when council staff will be cleaning up the area around the Town Hall and other public buildings. Street cleaning has already begun and is in full swing across the town, and garden waste will be collected in early May.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PICK, PULL, GRILL, HAVE FUN AND SWIM.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201eGreat Fjord\u201c is the name of the initiative which will be launched on Saturday, 7th April at L\u00e6kjarsk\u00f3li and Setbergssk\u00f3li. A clean-up of the school grounds and surrounding neighbourhoods will take place, and the schedule for the initiative week is as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Saturday, 7th April<\/strong> Spring clean at L\u00e6kjarsk\u00f3li and Setbergssk\u00f3li from 11:00 to 13:30. The school grounds, the town centre and Setberg will be tidied up, finishing at Su\u00f0urb\u00e6jarlaug.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tuesday, 10 April<\/strong> The spring clean will take place at the V\u00ed\u00f0ista\u00f0ask\u00f3li site on V\u00ed\u00f0ista\u00f0at\u00fan and in Engidal. The school grounds will be tidied, with the clean taking place in the north and west of the town from 16:30 to 19:00, finishing at the Swimming Pool.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wednesday, 11th April<\/strong> A spring clean will take place at \u00c1slandsssk\u00f3li and Hraunvallask\u00f3li. The school grounds, \u00c1sland and V\u00f6llarnir will be tidied from 16:30 to 19:00, finishing at \u00c1svallalaug.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thursday, 12th April<\/strong> A spring clean will take place at Hvaleyrarsk\u00f3li and \u00d6ldut\u00fanssk\u00f3li. The school grounds, the Hill and the South Town will be tidied from 16:30 to 19:00, finishing at the South Town Pool.<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The latest in running and outdoor activities is so-called \u201eplogging\u201c, which is Swedish in origin, where people get together to walk or jog and pick up litter along the way. This is an ideal opportunity for \u201eploggers\u201c to get involved and learn or teach the \u201eplog\u201c. Rubbish bags, litter pickers and bins will be provided, but those interested are asked to dress appropriately for the conditions and bring their own gloves. For environmental reasons, single-use plastic gloves will not be provided. Everyone will be invited for a hot dog after the session, and all participants will then get a free swim and a small treat from the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Municipal Employees' Clean-up Day <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The staff of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur are not to be outdone; their clean-up day will be on 18 April. On that day, staff will clean the areas around their work sites. For several years, for example, staff at the Town Hall have been picking up litter and sweeping Thor's Square and other areas near the Town Hall. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Great role models among businesses in Harbourside &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As mentioned above, companies will also be assisted with cleaning up their premises, and containers will be placed in three locations in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. The containers are primarily intended for the disposal of timber and iron from businesses in each respective area. Containers will be in the area from the 9th to the 18th of April. Businesses are particularly encouraged to take advantage of this municipal service, thereby helping the town to improve its appearance. <a href=\"https:\/\/hafnarfjordur.is\/en\/media\/uncategorized\/d89tx6fd.JPG\/\">The containers will be located as follows<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Garden waste will be collected in early May.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As is customary, the council collects residents' garden waste. This collection is organised by neighbourhood and takes place in late May. Residents are asked to place garden waste in bags at the kerbside and to tie up hedge clippings in bundles. Please note that this collection does not include loose soil, timber, metals or hazardous materials.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Street sweeping in full swing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Street sweeping is currently in full swing. The work has been ongoing since the beginning of March, during which time the main roads have been cleaned. Below is the schedule being followed for a comprehensive street sweep throughout Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, as follows. Sweeping of main pedestrian routes 23 March \u2013 3 April. Sweeping of all town streets 3 \u2013 24 April. Sweeping of all pavements 3 April \u2013 10 May. Sweeping of car parks 3 April \u2013 1 May. Cleaning of islands 3 April \u2013 15 May. City centre sweeping every other weekend.
