Today, the Mayor of Reykjav\u00edk and the mayors of Mosfellsb\u00e6r, Seltjarnarnes, K\u00f3pavogur, Gar\u00f0ab\u00e6r and Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur signed a landmark agreement between the municipalities on a major initiative to renovate and develop the facilities of the capital region's ski areas at Bl\u00e1fj\u00f6ll and Sk\u00e1lafell.<\/p>\n
The signing took place at the service centre in Bl\u00e1fj\u00f6ll just now at midday in a light sleet.<\/p>\n
The agreement entails the renewal and installation of three chairlifts in Bl\u00e1fj\u00f6ll and the renewal of a chairlift in Sk\u00e1lafell in the coming years. Furthermore, snowmaking equipment will be installed in Bl\u00e1fj\u00f6ll.<\/p>\n
Alongside these projects, work will continue on the development of the cross-country skiing area and on improving facilities for cross-country skiers.<\/p>\n
The estimated cost of these works for the years 2019\u20132024 is approximately 3.6 billion kr\u00f3na.<\/p>\n
These projects are the first of two phases in the overall development of the ski areas, based on a vision for their development and operation until the year 2030.<\/p>\n
