Dear friends and colleagues.<\/p>\n
This weekend, my contract with the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur for the position of mayor comes to an end. It has been a great honour to serve in this varied and rewarding role for the past four years, and I am grateful for the opportunity. I believe we have done quite well during this term of office, and I am stepping down a happy and content man. I have had the opportunity to advance many projects that will hopefully improve the community for the future.\u00a0 However, there are two issues I would have liked to have seen progress further. On the one hand, the reforms we have initiated in education, and in particular early intervention, and the integration of family services with education and leisure services. On the other hand, the issue of housing for disabled people and the housing co-operatives we have launched, and I truly hope that the saying 'actions speak louder than words' will apply here. Half the work is done when it's begun.<\/em>.I have had the opportunity to get to know the council's fantastic staff, and the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur has a great workforce which is important to nurture well. It has been both rewarding and a pleasure to work with and get to know all the wonderful people who work for the municipality, and those who have served on its boards, committees and commissions. I would like to thank all the staff members for their conversations, which have been both rewarding and helpful in the running of the town. Equally rewarding and enjoyable has been collaborating and speaking with the town's residents, for which I am extremely grateful.<\/p>\n I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the employees of the municipality, the councillors and the residents for the pleasant and rewarding collaboration over the past four years.\u00a0 Furthermore, I would like to wish the new town council every success in its work during the term of office now beginning, and I wish the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, the municipal employees and the town's residents all the best for the years to come.\u00a0<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" K\u00e6ru vinir og samstarfsf\u00f3lk.
