R\u00f3sa Gu\u00f0bjartsd\u00f3ttir took office as mayor of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur last Thursday and has spent the past few days familiarising herself with the role, visiting the town's largest workplaces and meeting her colleagues. R\u00f3sa is well acquainted with the affairs of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur; she took her seat on the town council twelve years ago, in 2006, and during the last term was chair of the town board and the education board. <\/p>\n
This morning, she visited the managers and staff of the service centre on Nor\u00f0urh\u00e6ll. <\/p>\n
R\u00f3sa is a political scientist from the University of Iceland and worked for several years in journalism, for the most part as a reporter for the news desk at St\u00f6\u00f0var 2 and Bylgjan. R\u00f3sa has also been an active writer and editor at B\u00f3kaf\u00e9lagi\u00f0. <\/p>\n
She was an alternate MP for the Independence Party from 2007 to 2009 and sat on the Althingi for several months. R\u00f3sa has taken an active part in the work of the sports movement and is on the professional board of the Children's Welfare Fund.<\/p>\n
She was the executive director of the Children's Cancer Support Association from 2001 to 2006 and has been the chairman of the association's board for the past ten years. <\/p>\n
R\u00f3sa was brought up in the North Town in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and is a graduate of Flensborg School. She is married to J\u00f3nas Sigurgeirsson and they have four children. <\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
