Pupils and teachers at Skar\u00f0shl\u00ed\u00f0arsk\u00f3li today ran the first of many \u201emiles\u201c from the school. It is a project modelled on the Scottish initiative called The Daily Mile, and the school is the first in Iceland to take part. Skar\u00f0shl\u00ed\u00f0arsk\u00f3li opened in the autumn of 2017.
\nin temporary accommodation but recently moved into a magnificent new building in Skar\u00f0shl\u00ed\u00f0, Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.<\/p>\n
Around 5,000 schools around the world are participants in
\nthe project which involves all the school's pupils going outside daily to walk or jog
\nor run for 15 minutes. To mark the start of the project at Skar\u00f0shl\u00ed\u00f0arsk\u00f3li, participants walked about 800 metres to a large stone where they all left their fingerprints on it in the school's colours. The Mile is not a competition, but
\nA sense of community and joy where everyone goes at their own pace and on their own terms. The experience
\nhas shown that many walk about one mile (1.6 km) in 15 minutes and therefore
\nThe project is called The Daily Mile.
\nSkar\u00f0shl\u00ed\u00f0arsk\u00f3li has decided to use the name \u201eM\u00edlan\u201c for its project. Research has
\nThis simple method demonstrates significant benefits for everyone. These include
\nbetter well-being, increased self-confidence, better concentration, better communication, less
\nstress and anxiety and increased perseverance. In addition, this is a powerful way to
\nto tackle obesity and sedentary lifestyle. <\/p>\n
