The mayor of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur says jointly<br \/>\nan important statement in ongoing talks with the government about the next steps in<br \/>\ntransport infrastructure projects in the capital region and wants to see a clear plan for safety<br \/>\nof travellers.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>In a joint declaration of intent, it states<br \/>\nthat the signatories agree to aim for sustainable,<br \/>\na carbon-neutral urban community and a robust public transport system with<br \/>\ndiverse modes of travel in line with the government's climate plan and priorities<br \/>\nof the municipalities in the capital region. A project group has been established.<br \/>\nunder the leadership of Hreinn Haraldsson, former Road Administrator, who will deliver<br \/>\nproposals by 15 November. The proposals need to take into account the objectives in<br \/>\nTransport Plan 2018-2033, Climate Action Plan 2018-2030 and Plan<br \/>\non air quality in Iceland 2018-2029. R\u00f3sa Gu\u00f0bjartsd\u00f3ttir, Mayor<br \/>\nHafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur says it is pleasing to see in a new<br \/>\ntransport plan that work on the dualling of the Reykjanesbraut will continue on<br \/>\nnext year, but also wants to see a clear plan to ensure the safety of road users.<br \/>\nIt is more likely to be secured by getting that project finished sooner than it currently looks like.\u201e<i>We<br \/>\nWe in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur also place great emphasis on improvements being made to<br \/>\nat the junction of L\u00e6kjargata on the one hand and Kaplakrika on the other, and that sooner than<br \/>\nlater. The situation on the Reykjanesbrautin through Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur is completely<br \/>\nunbearable, as around 45,000 vehicles drive through each day and difficult<br \/>\nTraffic jams are forming in the town centre.&nbsp;<\/i>The letter of intent also includes<br \/>\nagreed to talks on the implementation of public transport but<br \/>\nR\u00f3sa says that the first task there will be to reach an agreement on<br \/>\ntheir financing and operation.\u201e<i>The most pressing issue in my mind for the coming years is to resolve<br \/>\nthe traffic bottlenecks facing us today and the funding of projects<br \/>\nbecause of them\u201c&nbsp;<\/i>says R\u00f3sa.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The appointed project group is tasked with delivering<br \/>\nproposals that eliminate differences, in order to improve traffic flow and enhance<br \/>\nroad safety.
