Two projects received a grant from the Fridrik's Fund today, on Fridrik Bjarnason's very own birthday.\u00a0 One is a concert dedicated to the sea and a performance of the work Stabat Mater. This time, a total of 9 applications for a grant from the fund were received, but the fund's board decided to award grants of 145,000 kr. to two projects. Every autumn, applications for grants from the Fund of Fri\u00f0rik Bjarnaason and Gu\u00f0laug P\u00e9tursd\u00f3ttir are invited. The purpose of the fund is to promote the musical life in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and to support students from Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur for further musical studies and music scholars.<\/p>\n

The performers are \u00c1lfhei\u00f0ur Erla Gu\u00f0mundsd\u00f3ttir, soprano, Krist\u00edn Sveinsd\u00f3ttir, mezzo-soprano, P\u00e9tur Bj\u00f6rnsson, violinist, and other members of the Elja Chamber Orchestra.<\/p>\n
Cauda Collective is a musical group that aims to blend classical chamber music with new music and weave it together with other art forms. The members are Sigr\u00fan Har\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir, violinist, and \u00de\u00f3rd\u00eds Ger\u00f0ur J\u00f3nsd\u00f3ttir, cellist. The grant is for a concert dedicated to the sea, which will take place at Hafnarborg around the same time as Seafarers' Day.<\/p>\n
In a will from 1960, the couple Fri\u00f0rik Bjarnason and Gu\u00f0laug P\u00e9tursd\u00f3ttir bequeathed a large part of their assets to the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and stipulated that books and items should be preserved in the library and that a fund should be established to \u201eto promote musical life in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur in whatever way is considered best at the time, with particular emphasis on promoting choral singing in the town\u201c, and \u201eto support students in musical studies and music scholars\u201c. Grants are awarded on Fri\u00f0rik's birthday, 27 November, each year.<\/p>\n
