The Municipality of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur takes
\ntakes its preventative role seriously and has for some time taken the path of
\noffer peer education within Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur's primary schools. Has this approach
\nIt was well received by pupils, their parents and school staff.
\nThe discussion will often be more open and different, and is therefore considered a good addition to the
\neducation and encouragement that takes place in other ways.<\/p>\n

At the moment, two prevention projects are underway at
\nHafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. On the one hand, there is the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur musician and former
\nIcelandic football champion, J\u00f3n Ragnar J\u00f3nsson, visits students in Year 8.
\nto all the primary schools and chats with them about a healthy lifestyle. The other
\nThis is a preventative project for Year 9 pupils in secondary schools.
\nHafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and is concerned with mental health education. The Hugr\u00fan Mental Health Education Association has taken on
\nthis peer education, but the Healthy City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur entered into an agreement with
\nThe Society in the Autumn Term 2018. <\/p>\n

Focus on the discussion about e-cigarettes
\nand their harm <\/strong><\/p>\n

This year, J\u00f3n Ragnar J\u00f3nsson places special emphasis on the discussion of
\ne-cigarettes and their harm, as well as his discussion of children's tobacco use and
\nyouth as a whole. This is a collaborative project between the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and
\nCancer Society of the Capital Region. \u201eJohn
\nFor several years now, Ragnar has taken on this project with
\nanachronistic measurable success, since this is about a cheerful and stylish role model.
\nfor our young people who are, at heart, an ordinary young man from Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. He
\nchats with the kids on an equal footing, tells them about his life, answers
\nquestions about football, wonders what's exciting about the e-cigarettes,
\ndiscusses a healthy lifestyle, speaks out against the use of smokeless tobacco and talks about the music career\u201c
\n<\/em>says Geir Bjarnason, sports and leisure representative for the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. According to
\nAccording to research from Research and Analysis, 8th-grade pupils generally live very
\na healthy life and it is believed that positive and constructive preventative measures such as
\nJon's visit would encourage them to continue choosing a healthy lifestyle. <\/p>\n

Education about
\nMental health, mental illness and available resources<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Mental Health Education Society Hugr\u00fan <\/a> was founded in the spring of 2016 by students
\nin psychology, medicine and nursing at the University of Iceland and the association has
\nincluding the worthy aim of educating young people about mental health, mental illness and
\nresources, as well as to increase public awareness. To this end, the association's focus has been
\nengaged in educating secondary school pupils, as well as holding open evenings and presentations for
\nboth the public and parents. In collaboration with the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, takes
\nThe Mental Health Education Association is now taking the next step and bringing its education to primary school pupils. <\/p>\n

\nOn behalf of the association, all Year 9 pupils in primary schools will be visited in the spring term of 2019.
\nAbout mental health, mental illness and the resources available.
