The work is expected to start now.<br \/>\nthis spring and conclude in late autumn 2020.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>The objective of the works is to:<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>improve traffic safety and driving comfort by separating traffic flows with a central reservation and<br \/>\nroad rage<\/li>\n<li>improve traffic flow and<br \/>\ntraffic capacity with two lanes in each direction<\/li>\n<li>improve acoustics in<br \/>\nImmediate surroundings with noise insulation<\/li>\n<li>improve transport between<br \/>\na pedestrian and cycle link with two new footbridges<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Dualling a 3.2 kilometre section<\/h4>\n<p>About<br \/>\nit is a matter of doubling a 3.2 km section from Kald\u00e1rselsvegur and westwards.<br \/>\nKrysuv\u00edkur junction where a new carriageway will be built south of the current road.<br \/>\nThe road will be separated by a 3-metre-wide central reservation between the carriageways with crash barriers.<br \/>\non both sides. The motorway will be dug down by up to 4 m in two sections from<br \/>\nthe current footbridge at \u00c1sland and to Strandgata and through Hvaleyrarholti from<br \/>\nThorlakst\u00fan and west of the new underpass at Su\u00f0urbraut. Part of the works<br \/>\nis widening the bridge over Strandgata.<\/p>\n<h4>Measures to reduce traffic noise<\/h4>\n<p>Alongside the widening of the Reykjanesbraut, extensive measures will be taken.<br \/>\nmeasures to reduce traffic noise in the vicinity of the runway and comply with<br \/>\nRegulations on noise levels. A new soundproof barrier will be built between the Reykjanesbraut and<br \/>\nAt \u00c1sbraut opposite Erlu\u00e1s, the footpath from the end of the existing footbridge will be reconstructed. The sound barrier at \u00c1sbraut<br \/>\nThe kerb opposite \u00c1lfta\u00e1s will be raised. The current kerbs at Hvamma will be<br \/>\nOn the reconstructed and nearest part of the track, soil cells will be used to achieve better<br \/>\nAcoustics. At Su\u00f0urhvamm, sound walls are also erected on top of the m\u00e6n, extending inwards.<br \/>\non Strandgata and a sound barrier was installed<br \/>\nnorth side of the Strandgata Bridge. Then a timber fence along \u00de\u00fafut\u00fan will be replaced.<br \/>\noutside the sound barrier. At Thoralavkt\u00fan, soundproofing will be installed. At the easternmost point, tall<br \/>\nmanures with soil mounds, but the western part will be conventional<br \/>\nsoil reinforcement. Finally, localised defences will be made at the HS utilities connection point on<br \/>\nOpposite Su\u00f0urholt.<\/p>\n<h4>Improved transport links between neighbourhoods for pedestrians and cyclists<\/h4>\n<p>Transport links between neighbourhoods for pedestrians and cyclists will be<br \/>\nimproved and made safer with new footbridges over the Reykjanesbraut. A new bridge<br \/>\nwill be between Hvammar and \u00c1sl\u00e1ns, opposite \u00c1lfta\u00e1s. The current underpass at<br \/>\nThorlakst\u00fan will be removed and a bridge will be put in its place. The path design aims to improve<br \/>\naccess for all. Before road and bridge construction begins, utility companies will have largely<br \/>\ncompleted the relocation of pipelines.
