The artist Bj\u00f6rk
\nJakobsd\u00f3ttir was today awarded the title of Artist in Residence of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur 2019. Bj\u00f6rk
\nhas over the years undertaken a variety of roles and has worked, among other things, as
\nactress, director, producer, playwright and stand-up comedian. Mayor
\nR\u00f3sa Gu\u00f0bjartsd\u00f3ttir, on behalf of the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, presented the award at a ceremony.
\nA ceremony at Hafnarborg today on the last day of winter. The ceremony is part of the festival.
\nBright Days, which is taking place in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur until Sunday.<\/em><\/p>\n

This year's Artist of the Year has made a great contribution to
\nto enhance the cultural life in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and worked, among other things, with young people on
\nprojects that have attracted a great deal of attention. \u201eThe Heart Beats in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur\u201c said
\nBj\u00f6rk was moved and proud as she accepted the award. She thanked
\nTo the people of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur for the nomination and to their fellow travellers for all the adventures on
\na career spanning almost 30 years, and not least to those young people who today hold,
\nin her opinion, the junior national team in the performing arts. \u201eIt boosts the self-esteem of all teenagers to have a group of great young people.\"

Bj\u00f6rk has, ever since graduating from the Iceland Academy of the Arts
\nIn 1993, worked on theatre matters in Iceland with headquarters in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.
\nImmediately after graduating, she, along with others, founded the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Theatre in
\nthe old cold store on the North Bank. A dynamic theatre was run there which specialised
\nhimself in new Icelandic works such as Himnar\u00edki by \u00c1rni Ibsen, which caused a great stir
\nattention in its time. In the years after 2005, following performances of the blockbuster
\nCellophane, in which Bj\u00f6rk reflected on the life of the modern woman; she worked mostly abroad.
\nto direct Sell\u00f3fon in various countries in Europe. In 2010, Bj\u00f6rk founded,
\nalong with others, the Gaflar Theatre, which is now based on Viking Street in
\nHafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. There, for the last 10 years, she has directed a number of new Icelandic
\nplays. Her work with young people has attracted well-deserved attention and made
\nit is causing the nation's teenagers to flock to the Gaflar Theatre in
\nin the thousands. Bj\u00f6rk has also been the vitamin shot in the revival of a flourishing theatre life at Flensborgarsk\u00f3linn.
\nin parallel with offering the secondary classes in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur's primary schools a high-quality
\nand strong teaching in the creative arts. Mamma Klick by Gunnar Helgason in
\nBjarkar's play is scheduled for a run at the Gaflar Theatre this autumn.
\nshows such as The Teenager, The Girls, The Oven, Stefan Rises and
\nBlakk\u00e1t is very popular. <\/p>\n

\nbring together art and spring by announcing the 2019 Artist in Residence of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur in
\na day on the last day of winter, as optimism, growth and vitality accompany both art
