More senior staff in the town centre group, groups with sports clubs and at the playground will continue to work for a while longer. The mayor took advantage of the good weather yesterday and visited several groups to learn more about their projects and work this summer and to thank them for a job well done.

An important link in the chain

The work experience programme primarily focuses on environmental issues and thus plays a major part in cleaning the town and maintaining vegetation, streets and footpaths over the summer. Thus, young people aged 14-16 typically work within their own neighbourhoods, unless it involves work in other areas such as at a play scheme, in sports halls, in peer education, or in the town centre group. The staff of the Hafnarfjörður Work School play an important role in creating the desired appearance of the town, ensuring it is clean and tidy and, not least, pleasant for residents and tourists who visit. This year, the staff managed to mow all the town's grass, but unfortunately did not get around to clearing all the beds in every neighbourhood, as the weather has been exceptionally good and the grass and growth have kept pace with it.

Not just entertainment, grass, rubbish and weeds

General groups at the Hafnarfjörður Work School have this summer received various training alongside their work for their town. Thus, those who have turned 17 have received training on their employment rights and how to read payslips.

Peer educators have this summer been welcoming groups to peer education to the Youth Centre on Suðurgata. Each group can receive at least one session over the summer, and the topic of discussion will depend on what is of most concern to the students at the time. This summer, peer educators have covered topics such as relationships between the sexes, sick love, social media, masculinity, and more. Interesting discussions have arisen with all groups, as everyone brings their own experience, knowledge, and opinions to the table, which are all worth airing and discussing.

All information about the Hafnarfjörður Summer School can be found Here

The Hafnarfjörður Work Camp is at Facebook

Many thanks to the staff of the Hafnarfjörður Summer School for your contribution this summer!
Good luck at school!

Starfsmenn í Vinnuskóla Hafnarfjarðar, sem hafa verið við störf frá því í upphafi júní, ljúka störfum sínum nú í vikunni.
