Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur municipality, together with five other municipalities in
\nthe capital region, Gar\u00f0ab\u00e6r, K\u00f3pavogur, Mosfellsb\u00e6r, Reykjav\u00edk and Seltjarnarnes,
\nhave signed a landmark agreement with the Icelandic government on ambitious
\nthe development of transport infrastructure and public transport in the capital region to
\nfifteen years. The Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Town Council approved at its meeting on 16 October
\nthe previous, pending agreement on the planning and financing of the development
\non transport infrastructure until 2033.<\/p>\n
The agreement entails a shared vision and
\nholistic thinking for the planning area. The aim is to increase safety, improve
\ntransport for all modes of travel and reduce delays, significantly enhance public transport and
\nreduce pollution from particulate matter and greenhouse gas emissions in order to stand
\nfor the climate objectives of government and local authorities. Among other things, it is planned
\nfor significantly increased funding to improve traffic flow and road safety
\naround and through Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. <\/p>\n
Objective The total funding for transport projects during the period is approximately 120 billion. The state will contribute 45 billion and local authorities 15 billion. It is anticipated that dedicated funding will cover 6 billion kr. During the period, 52.2 billion will be invested in trunk roads, 49.6 billion for the infrastructure of the Borgarl\u00edna and public transport, 8.2 billion for pedestrian and cycle paths, footbridges and underpasses, and 7.2 billion for improved traffic management and specific safety measures. Work will also immediately begin on implementing digital traffic management in the capital region.<\/p>\n
\nThe agreement has four parts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n\n
\nAffordable and efficient transport in the capital region with balanced development.
\ninfrastructure of all modes of transport.<\/li>\n
\nsustainable, carbon-neutral climate goals of national and local government
\na civic community with enhanced public transport and a sharing economy in transport,
\nImproved infrastructure for sustainable modes of transport and encouraging changes in travel habits.

\nroad safety with the aim of drastically reducing road accidents.<\/li>\n
\nefficient implementation and a robust framework for the project, including by defining
\nforms of cooperation, cost-sharing, responsibility for specific actions and
