Around 40 teachers and school office staff have visited schools in Denmark, Norway and Sweden with support from Erasmus+.

Drawing on the knowledge and experience of our neighbours in the Nordic countries.

As soon as the municipalities in the capital region declared in 2017 that they were all willing to take in more refugees and asylum seekers, the question arose of how to support teachers in welcoming pupils from this group, teach them and adapt them to Icelandic society. The most logical course of action was to draw on the knowledge and experience of our neighbours in the Nordic countries, and grants from Erasmus+ made this possible during the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 academic years. In total, teachers from 34 schools in the capital region have visited around 20 schools in Denmark, Norway and Sweden through these projects. Following the visits, they have since shared their experience with hundreds of other teachers in the capital region through training sessions, lectures and other promotional materials.

Find out more about SSH's Erasmus+ project:

http://ssh.menntamidja.is/fjolmenning/namsferdir-til-skandinaviu/

http://ssh.menntamidja.is/fjolmenning/kennaraheimsoknir-til-nordurlanda/

The award is from the workshop Ásgarður in Mosfellsbær, a protected workplace that works in the spirit of Rudolf Steiner.
