{"id":14032,"date":"2019-11-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-11-12T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hafnarfjordur.is\/bjarkavellir-fullgildur-stm-leikskoli\/"},"modified":"2022-10-25T09:02:22","modified_gmt":"2022-10-25T09:02:22","slug":"bjarkavellir-a-fully-accredited-stm-nursery-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hafnarfjordur.is\/en\/bjarkavellir-fullgildur-stm-leikskoli\/","title":{"rendered":"Birchwood Nursery becomes a fully-fledged SMT nursery school"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The nursery school<br \/>\nBjarkalundur has graduated as a fully-fledged and independent SMT nursery school.<br \/>\nBjarkalundur began its operations in the autumn of 2016 and it was immediately decided that the school<br \/>\nwould use the school skills of SMT. The aim of the SMT school skills is to promote good<br \/>\nlearning environment, desirable behaviour and increasing social skills and thus positive<br \/>\nBehaviour is given special attention and reinforced. All primary schools in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.<br \/>\nhave implemented the SMT school skills, and many nurseries have also done so. Bjarkalundur is now joining their ranks.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Birch grove began<br \/>\nthe implementation of SMT as the school commenced in the autumn term of 2016 and has<br \/>\nthe implementation process has therefore been ongoing for around three years. Teams within the school were appointed<br \/>\nHead of Department, Nursery Manager, Deputy Nursery Manager and Special Education Manager<br \/>\nhas, during the period, worked closely with and met regularly with El\u00edsa R. Ing\u00f3lfsd\u00f3ttir,<br \/>\nSMT implementer. \u00c1sthildur B. Snorrad\u00f3ttir,<br \/>\na speech therapist, was also involved in the project where the use of<br \/>\nEtiquette from The Bee Books, authored by \u00c1sthildur. Now upon graduation, the school staff take over completely and carry on.<br \/>\nfor the excellent and professional work that has laid the foundation and ensures<br \/>\nthus the continued effective use of SMT tools. By utilising the tools of SMT<br \/>\nIn school work, the chances increase that the school staff will use comparable<br \/>\napproaches to interacting with the children. This way, the children know what is expected of them.<br \/>\nfrom them and greater calm arises within the group. <\/p>\n<p>Congratulations, students,<br \/>\nStaff and parents at Bjarkalundi with the graduation! <\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/hafnarfjardarbaer\/\">More photos from the graduation can be viewed on the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur's Facebook page.&nbsp;<\/a> <\/p>\n<p><strong>A parallel approach for parents and others involved in parenting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>PMTO, which stands for<br \/>\nParent Management Training \u2013 the Oregon approach, is a comparable approach and<br \/>\nSMT school skills, but this is a method for parents and others who are involved.<br \/>\nParenting. PMTO is an evidence-based method that reduces children's behavioural difficulties and<br \/>\nadolescents and empowers parents in their role. There are three course pathways in PMTO.<br \/>\nFirstly, there is the PMTO parenting course, which is an 8-week course, intended<br \/>\nparents of children with mild difficulties. Secondly, a PTC course is offered (e.g.<br \/>\nparent through change) which is a PMTO treatment group intended for parents of children there.<br \/>\nwhich has become something of a problem, but not a significant one. Finally, there are PMTOs<br \/>\nindividualised treatments where the therapy is tailored to the needs of each parent<br \/>\nIndividual therapy is suitable for parents of children where a problem has already developed.<br \/>\nsignificant and parents are receiving services from e.g. child protection and BUGL. In<br \/>\nAll study routes cover the same curriculum, but the extent to which this is the case varies between them.<br \/>\nThe topic is covered quickly and how much follow-up parents receive during the course\/treatment.<br \/>\nstands. For some time, PMTO has been offered by the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.<br \/>\nparenting course and demand has exceeded supply. During the school year<br \/>\n2018-2019, a great deal of emphasis was placed on reducing the waiting lists that had built up on<br \/>\nGroup courses for parents.
