Today, Tuesday, 4th February, at 3 p.m., the Bl\u00e1fjallavegur (417), from Bl\u00e1fjallalei\u00f0 to the Lei\u00f0arenda cave, will be closed for the time being for water protection reasons. The Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Town Council approved the temporary closure at its meeting on 29 August 2019 and simultaneously requested a further environmental and risk assessment of the road section. The assessment is to be available by the end of 2021 at the latest. <\/p>\n

According to information from the Road Administration, there is little traffic on this section of road. The road is not gritted during the winter months and there are steep road slopes in many places. It is considered important to consider water protection in this area, as the Bl\u00e1fjallavegur largely runs through a water protection zone. The main route to Bl\u00e1fj\u00f6ll is from the Su\u00f0urlandsvegur.<\/p>\n

The Town Council agrees that the southern part of Bl\u00e1fjallavegur will be closed for the time being for water protection reasons, from Lei\u00f0arendi east to junction 417-01. In the opinion of the Town Council, a further environmental and risk assessment of the road section is required, and it is requested that the Environment and Operations Committee commission such an assessment to be submitted by the end of 2021 at the latest.
