Confirmed cases of COVID-19
\nThe number of coronavirus cases outside China has increased in recent days, including in Europe.
\nas the case in Northern Italy approaches three hundred. It is suspected that
\none case has emerged in Tenerife, Spain, but final confirmation of it
\nis not available. The Chief Medical Officer warns against unnecessary travel to four regions in
\nNorthern Italy, but no travel advisories are in effect for Tenerife. See recommendations for
\ntourists'.<\/a><\/p>\n

The northern regions of Italy as well as Tenerife are popular destinations for Icelanders. Here
\nBelow you can find the public health authority's recommendations for these two areas.
\nIt should be borne in mind that the situation in Europe with regard to COVID-19 is now changing.
\nrapidly and therefore the public health physician's recommendations could change with short notice.

\nDanger zone<\/a><\/p>\n

Northern Italy<\/strong>
The Chief Medical Officer advises against non-essential travel to Lombardy, Veneto,
\nEmilia-Romagna and Piedmont in Italy. Those who have stayed in these areas on
\nin recent days and have arrived in the country or are arriving in the country is
\nIt is recommended to stay at home for 14 days as a precaution.  <\/p>\n

This
\ndoes not apply to those individuals who travel from Italy to Iceland via
\ninternational airport in Northern Italy but have stayed in other areas than those
\nmentioned above. It is urgent that those who are either in the area consider
\nmaintain good personal hygiene and follow the instructions of health authorities. At present, the advice against non-essential travel to the areas does not apply to
\nski resorts in Northern Italy, but they are outside the aforementioned risk areas and there have been no cases.
\nSo far, they have been notified from there.<\/p>\n

Tenerife<\/strong>
A suspected case of the COVID-19 virus has arisen at H10 Costa
\nAt the Adeje Palace hotel in Tenerife, Spain. So far, there are not
\nindications that there are more cases and that the virus has spread. For the time being,
\ntravel to Tenerife is not therefore discouraged. However, it is essential that those who otherwise
\nwhether in the area or planning to travel there, give careful thought to personal
\nhygiene and follow the instructions of the local health authorities. The public health physician will today gather information on whether and which individuals
\nhave stayed at the H10 Costa Adeje Palace hotel and are now in the country or
\nare on their way home. To those who have stayed at the hotel for the past two weeks
\nIt is recommended to stay at home for 14 days as a precaution. So far, there have been no
\nA need for tourists other than those with a direct connection to the hotel in question to undergo
\nQuarantine on return to Iceland.<\/p>\n

General hygiene<\/strong>
The Chief Medical Officer recommends that people pay close attention to personal hygiene (hand washing,
\na tissue for the nose when sneezing or coughing). The public can easily
\nReduce the risk of infection by taking good care of your personal hygiene.
\nHand washing and general hygiene around the eyes, nose and mouth are key.

The novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) behaves in some ways like influenza, symptoms are

\ncases arriving in the EU\/EEA (Iceland) from countries other than China. The situation is stable.
