A total of 11 applications were received. At its meeting last Wednesday, the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Town Council approved the Town Board's recommendation to allocate the plots to four groups, composed of architects, designers and builders, who have joined forces to develop exciting concepts for the area. The first flats are expected to go on sale within two years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responding to a market need<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was decided to take an unconventional approach to the allocation of the first plots on this new 25-hectare development site on the outskirts of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. Applications were therefore invited from collaborative groups to develop the first plots in the first phase of the area, with the aim of responding to market needs and perspectives. The arrangement and implementation creates a collaborative platform for ideas on smaller flats, construction costs, sustainability, recycling, travel costs and alternative forms of living. <em>\u201eThe idea is for the layout of this area to reflect a market need. There is high demand for beautiful homes at a good price. We want to meet this demand in one of the most beautiful and family-friendly development areas in the capital region.\u201c<\/em> says R\u00f3sa Gu\u00f0bjartsd\u00f3ttir, Mayor of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur<em>. \u201cIt is extremely pleasing to see such great interest in the area. The reception is extremely positive news for the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur community, not least at this time.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The four groups that received an allocation were 1) Ark\u00eds, Verk\u00eds and Circular solutions with a plot for 75 apartments, 2) Verkland, VS\u00d3 r\u00e1\u00f0gj\u00f6f, Tendra and Klinka with a plot for 50 apartments, 3) Prospectus with a plot for 75 flats and 4) GP arkitektar, X-JB ehf and VS\u00d3 r\u00e1\u00f0gj\u00f6f ehf with a plot for 110-130 flats. Planning work in Hamranes is well advanced, and it is expected that more plots in the first phase of the area will be allocated in the coming weeks. Three plots in the first phase are designated for the housing association Bjargi, with provision for the development of around 150 homes. The Skar\u00f0shl\u00ed\u00f0ar neighbourhood, which borders Hamranes, is rising rapidly these days. The first residents moved into the neighbourhood last summer, and the local nursery and primary school are now up and running.
