Birgir \u00d6rn Gu\u00f0j\u00f3nsson is the first interviewee for Vitan who is not an employee of the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, but nevertheless works in the town hall in an interesting pilot project by the capital region police and the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur called The Village. The aim of The Village is to reduce or prevent substance misuse among children and young people through collaboration between partners, based on the principles of early intervention, etc.d. by preventing children from living with violence, neglect or other conditions that make them more susceptible to risky behaviour.<\/p>\n

Biggi, who grew up in Akureyri, never intended to become a police officer but sent a speculative application to the Police College, and there was no turning back. For a short time, Biggi took a break from his career as a police officer and worked as a flight attendant, but he is also well-known to many from the national political debate. He has been active in politics and is, among other things, an alternate town councillor in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur today. However, the interview is primarily about his work in \u00deorpinu, a project that has been met with great satisfaction. Biggi gives interesting examples of how this project has yielded successful results, particularly in its engagement with the young people of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, and sincerely hopes that this exciting pilot project will continue.<\/p>\n

Will to extend the pilot project for a year<\/strong><\/p>\n

Information on the status of the Village, a pilot project by the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and the Capital Region Police<\/a> , were presented at meetings of the Family Council and the Education Council this week. Both councils emphasise the importance of continued cooperation between Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and the Capital Area Police. The project, which has proved very successful, addresses the need for system interoperability and interdisciplinary cooperation, and in the wake of Covid-19, there is an even greater need to strengthen and develop this way of working. It was also noted that close and effective cooperation between the police and social services, education services, child protection, and other departments and institutions of the municipality is key when it comes to the prevention and protection of vulnerable groups such as children and young people. The collaboration increases efficiency in case handling, enhances safety, contributes to a reduction in criminal damage, and improves services for the municipality's residents, for example, by coordinating procedures and improving access to the police. Both councils passed motions at this week's meetings calling on the Capital Region Police to extend the pilot project for a year, thereby contributing to the welfare of children and supporting the Village and the projects it is currently working on.<\/p>\n
