The familiar timetable will be followed until the summer holidays, and the end-of-year ceremony will take place according to the approved school calendar. Among other things, there will be a joint planning day on 29 May. Break times will follow the usual pattern. Clubs will resume their activities based on the attendance registers from before the lockdown, and club transport will restart. The work of youth centres will return to normal, as will the teaching by the Hafnarfjörður Music School in the primary schools. Assessment will take place as usual, but each school will implement this in its own way, and clearer guidance from the government is awaited regarding the graduation of Year 10 pupils and enrolment in secondary school.

Entertainment and celebrations for students, not for parents/guardians.

It is clear that tasks will have to be prioritised in May, as normal school activities have not taken place since 16 March. This means it will not be possible to carry out all routine tasks in May, or those that have been missed. School management has agreed on a plan to follow for the rest of the spring, based on the same principles across all schools. Therefore, parents' evenings and outdoor parties with parents will not take place this spring, although such events will be possible for pupils. Pupil proms are cancelled, but other entertainment will be considered towards the end of the school year. Trips will be shorter, and graduation ceremonies will need to be scaled down to avoid too many adults being in the same place at the same time. We ask parents to respect the two-metre social distancing rule and not to enter the school premises unnecessarily until the spring, but to use electronic communication where appropriate.

Cafeterias open and students can bring a packed lunch again.

School canteens will reopen from 4 May, and pupils will also be able to bring their own packed lunch again. This means that porridge will once again be served in the morning, a fruit subscription at mid-morning, lunch served in the school canteen, and finally an afternoon snack at the after-school club, as before. However, it has been decided not to reintroduce self-service food at lunchtime in any school, but pupils will continue to serve themselves vegetables with their meal. On Monday, 4 May, the distribution of meals that were due to be collected on 16 March will begin for those who had a subscription for March. School Meals will shortly be sending out invoices to subscribers for the remainder of the school year, i.e. from mid-May until the end of the school year. The emphasis on hygiene in the school will continue, although the hygiene zone will be discontinued on 4 May, and we will continue to rely on everyone's cooperation in washing their hands thoroughly and using hand sanitiser.

School attendance rules to take effect again on 4 May

It should be noted that the rules on school attendance in Hafnarfjörður's primary schools will come back into effect on 4 May, after being put on hold during the lockdown period. Attendance is important, and schools are expected to follow up closely to ensure pupils attend and to support those who are anxious about returning to daily school life. Regular school services will resume, e.g. team work for individual pupils, assessments and advice from psychologists, speech and language therapists and teaching advisors, and other school services as appropriate.

Working together to maintain our success! Thanks for your positivity and good cooperation so far!

With these changes now coming into effect, it is vital that everyone plays an active part in maintaining the success achieved in stopping the coronavirus pandemic. We thank you for your positivity towards the restrictions that had to be put in place for school activities in March, and we now hope that this transition to normal school activities will be a success.

————————————————–

In English

School activities as of 4 May

On Monday, 4 May, schoolwork will resume in the primary schools of Hafnarfjörður according to the schedule as it was before schoolwork was restricted during the ban on public gatherings. This will also include sports and swimming lessons, although these may change slightly in some schools, and there will be outdoor lessons as is usual in the spring.

The first lessons will start during the third period, Teachers will be using the early morning for meetings and organising the work ahead. The plan is to work according to the issued spring timetable and for the end of term to be in line with the approved school calendar. This also means that the joint staff planning day will be held on 29 May. Break times Between classes will be as normal. After-school centres will operate Based on their attendance registrations as they stood before the ban on gatherings, the after-school activities bus will resume services. The work of community centres will return to normal, The lessons from the teachers of the Hafnarfjörður Music School in primary schools will also take place. Academic assessments will be held as usual and will be arranged independently by each school. Clearer instructions from the authorities regarding the graduation of Year 10 students and their acceptance into secondary schools are awaited.

It is clear that tasks need to be prioritised during the month of May, as no normal schoolwork has been carried out since 16 March. This means that we will be unable to undertake all normal tasks in May or those that we have missed. Primary school headteachers have agreed on arrangements to be put in place until the spring, based on the same aspects for all schools. Therefore, events attended by parents and outdoor festivals with parents will not be taking place this spring, although these would be possible with just students. The annual student celebrations will be cancelled, while other events will be considered closer to the end of the school year. Trips will be shorter, and graduation celebrations will have to be scaled down to ensure that there are not too many adults present in the same place at the same time. We ask that parents comply with the two-metre distancing rule and do not enter the school buildings without reason until the spring, and we recommend that they use electronic means of communication where appropriate.

School canteens will reopen

Likewise, school canteens will reopen on 4 May and students can also bring their own packed lunches. In addition, porridge will again be available in the morning, a fruit subscription at mid-morning, lunch prepared in the student canteen and finally, an afternoon snack in after-school centres as before. However, lunch will not be self-service in any school, although students will still have the option of self-service for vegetable accompaniments. On Monday, 4 May, food deliveries will begin according to the menu that would have been used on 16 March for those who had a subscription for March. Skólamatur will soon send payment invoices to subscribers for the time remaining of the school year, i.e. from mid-May to the end of the school year. The schools will continue to pay attention to infection prevention, although quarantine units will be discontinued as of 4 May, and we will continue to rely on the cooperation and solidarity of everyone to wash their hands properly and then disinfect.

In addition, it should be noted that the rules on attendance at Hafnarfjörður primary schools will come back into effect on 4 May after having been put on hold during the ban on gatherings. It is important to attend school, and the school is expected to ensure that pupils attend school and to support those pupils who are anxious about returning to daily schoolwork. Normal school services, such as team-based approaches regarding individual students, diagnoses and the services of psychologists, speech therapists and special education consultants, etc., will also be resumed as appropriate.

With the changes now coming into effect, it is important that everyone takes an active part in maintaining the results that have been achieved in halting the coronavirus pandemic. We thank you for your understanding and positive outlook regarding the limits that needed to be set in March and hope that the return to normal school operations will continue in the future.

<<English below>> School activities as of 4 May Takmörkunum á skólastarfi í grunnskólum aflétt mánudaginn 4. maí Mánudaginn 4. maí nk. hefst skólastarf í grunnskólum Hafnarfjarðar samkvæmt stundatöflunni sem gilti áður en skólastarf var skert í samkomubanni.
