To meet the needs of the GAJA plant and to increase the recycling of household waste, a mechanical sorting line is now being installed at the reception and sorting facility in Gufunes.<\/p>\n<\/header>\n<p>The new processing line will include six metal separators, screens and other equipment to separate the organic part of household waste from inorganic materials, such as plastic and other items that may be present. There will also be a new wind sorter which will separate lightweight materials, such as plastic, paper and textiles, from timber, glass and other denser materials.<\/p>\n<h4>K\u00e1ri the windsurfer moves to \u00c1lfsnes<\/h4>\n<p>Changes at the reception station include, among other things, the relocation of K\u00e1ra, a wind sorter for <strong>plastic in a bag, <\/strong>and it will be out of service while the work is carried out. K\u00e1ri is a piece of equipment used to sort plastic bags from household waste in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, Gar\u00f0ab\u00e6r, Mosfellsb\u00e6r and Seltjarnarnes. The installation of the processing line is expected to be completed around 20 May, after which equipment testing will begin. The processing line, including K\u00e1ri, is expected to be fully operational by the first half of June.<\/p>\n<p>Residents in those local authorities that return plastic with household waste are therefore still asked to return their sorted plastic to kerbside collection points or recycling centres.
