The Ministry of Social Affairs recently awarded grants to 20 projects from the Immigration Development Fund. The development fund has been in operation since 2007 and its annual budget has typically been 10 million kr\u00f3na. This year, special emphasis was placed on awarding grants to projects for the benefit of children and young people. A total of 72 applications were received this year, requesting a total of approximately 16.9 million kr\u00f3na. Of the 20 grants awarded this year, just over half related to issues concerning children and their families. Of these, the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur received a grant for one development project. <\/p>\n
The Municipality of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur received a grant in the amount of
\n1,500,000 kr. for the development project The increase in the number of immigrant children in
\nLeisure activities in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur<\/em>. The project aims to help primary school-aged children of immigrants settle into the sports scene in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur,
\nleisure and youth work. Active participation is considered to strengthen the children's self-identity, educate them about the values of Icelandic society, involve them in social projects, expand their social circle and develop their communication skills. Participation is offered free of charge in 3 \u2013
\n9 months in an approved sports and leisure activity with the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and
\nthe town's sports and leisure clubs. This way, children have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of leisure activities and get to know
\nbecause, together with the children of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, parents also get the opportunity to try it out at the same time.
