{"id":14331,"date":"2020-06-11T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-06-11T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hafnarfjordur.is\/tuktuk-i-thjonustu-bokasafnsins\/"},"modified":"2022-10-25T09:03:07","modified_gmt":"2022-10-25T09:03:07","slug":"tuk-tuk-in-the-service-of-the-library","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hafnarfjordur.is\/en\/tuktuk-i-thjonustu-bokasafnsins\/","title":{"rendered":"Tuk-tuk in the library's service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At a meeting of the Culture and Tourism Committee of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur on Wednesday, 10 June, the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Library was entrusted with the management of a so-called tuk-tuk, an electric vehicle intended to bring the library closer to the people of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur this summer.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center lazyload\" title=\"The Cultural and Tourism Committee, together with the committee secretary and the library staff\" data-src=\"https:\/\/hafnarfjordur.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/20200610_095113-0-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 2048px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 2048\/1536;\"><\/p>\n<p>The purchase of the TukTuk was intended primarily as an additional service for tourists, acting as a mobile tourist information centre in the coming years. The idea is to be able to get to the main events in town over the summer and to places where tourists are expected, for example, upon the arrival of cruise ships. The vehicle will carry leaflets, maps and a wheel of fortune that visitors can spin to find an interesting place to visit in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.<\/p>\n<p>In light of the current situation, however, the vehicle will be assigned a different role for the time being and will be used for the services of the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Library, among other things to provide story times at nurseries and play schemes, visits to youth work and book deliveries to book exchange markets, which are planned to be set up in the town's neighbourhoods this summer. The focus will be on the outer areas of the town, with the aim of bringing the children's library services to those who cannot so easily access the library's offerings, and of bringing specialised children's services closer to their homes.
