{"id":14378,"date":"2020-08-10T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-08-10T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hafnarfjordur.is\/heitavatnslokun-a-hofudborgarsvaedinu\/"},"modified":"2022-09-26T15:15:59","modified_gmt":"2022-09-26T15:15:59","slug":"hot-water-shut-off-in-the-capital-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hafnarfjordur.is\/en\/heitavatnslokun-a-hofudborgarsvaedinu\/","title":{"rendered":"30-hour hot water outage in the capital region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The hot water will be turned off for part of the capital region. <strong><em>from 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 18th August until 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 19th August. <\/em><\/strong>The shutdown, which will last for approximately 30 hours, affects Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, parts of Gar\u00f0ab\u00e6r, the upper areas of K\u00f3pavogur and Nor\u00f0lingaholt in Reykjav\u00edk. A complete lack of hot water can be expected in the aforementioned areas during the shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>The reason for the closure is that the number of homes receiving hot water from the power stations at Hellishei\u00f0i and Nesjavallir is being increased. As a result, less hot water needs to be drawn from Veitur's boreholes in Reykjav\u00edk and Mosfellsb\u00e6r. With increased use of hot water, mainly due to population growth and urban densification, the pressure on the geothermal reservoir that feeds the boreholes in the low-temperature areas has increased, and this must be addressed.
