A new English website is now live!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"internal\" href=\"\/en\">New English website for the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur<\/a> has gone live. The website is largely a replica of the Icelandic municipal website, which underwent a substantive redesign at the same time. All key information about the municipality's services for community groups of all ages, schools, social support, the environment and transport have been translated into English, and in the coming days, it will be possible to access translations from the English website into numerous foreign languages with the help of Google.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Increased access to information in other languages enhances independence and security.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"internal\" href=\"\/en\">New English website<\/a> is part of the important task of providing an even better welcome for residents of foreign origin, who today make up about 13.1% of the population of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, or around 4,000. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/LivingInHafnarfjordur\">The Facebook page Living in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur<\/a> was opened this spring and the page's followers today number around 900. One of the municipality's objectives in the area of multiculturalism is to increase access to information through all possible channels; the web, social media and the customer service centre, as increased accessibility is likely to enhance the independence and security of new residents of foreign origin and immigrants in a new society.<\/p>\n<p><strong>One-year anniversary of the Service and Development Department<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The website is launched on the 1st anniversary of the service and development department. <a class=\"internal\" href=\"\/en\/province\/news\/service-should-be-the-top-result-in-the-first-touch-target\/\">A new department formally commenced on 1 September 2019.<\/a> and then took over responsibility for the town's customer service, museums, IT department, communications, cultural affairs and tourism. The first year has flown by and it is safe to say that it has involved both major digital challenges, partly due to Covid-19, and important milestones that have made the municipality smarter in many respects. The first year was therefore spent prioritising projects, mapping and reviewing processes, and implementing projects and actions that have shortened decision-making chains and improved the council's services.
