Pink October has begun. Over the years, the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur has shown its support for the campaign by illuminating beautiful houses, works of art or walls in pink. This year, the heart of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur at the end of Strandgata and the Hafnarborg were chosen. <\/p>\n
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Icelandic women. In just 50 years, the survival rate for women has doubled and the mortality rate has decreased by 35%. Cancer research is the foundation of these advances, and it is therefore important to do even better and continue to work towards progress. All proceeds from the 2020 Pink Ribbon campaign will go to cancer research, as the Pink Ribbon is an international symbol for breast cancer.<\/p>\n
The actual Pink Day will be on Friday, 16th October, and all staff of the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur will be encouraged to wear pink that day, preferably from head to toe. Residents of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, young and old, are also encouraged to wear the ribbon, dress in pink and brighten up the short days with a pink glow, so that all women diagnosed with cancer can feel the community's support and solidarity.<\/p>\n
