On 2nd October, the 62nd annual FR\u00cd congress was held at Kaplakriki in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, in close cooperation with the FH athletics department and the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. The congress was unusual in many ways. It had been postponed twice before, but was now held in the shadow of Covid-19, with health and safety measures being strictly observed. A precedent was set with a live stream from the congress, as well as the annual congress lasting only one day, not two, as has traditionally been the case.<\/p>\n

Distinguished guests addressed the parliament <\/h4>\n

Freyr \u00d3lafsson, Chairman of FR\u00cd, welcomed guests at 17:00 and opened the assembly. The Assembly Chairs were elected Gunnlaugur J\u00fal\u00edusson and Gunnar Svavarsson, who stepped in for Bj\u00f6rg \u00c1g\u00fastsd\u00f3ttir. The scribes were elected: A\u00f0albj\u00f6rg Hafsteinsd\u00f3ttir and Eir\u00edkur M\u00f6rk Valsson.
Distinguished guests addressed the assembly, including Lilja D\u00f6gg Alfre\u00f0sd\u00f3ttir, Minister of Education and Culture; \u00c1g\u00fast Bjarni Gar\u00f0arsson, Chairman of the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Town Council; Hafsteinn P\u00e1lsson, Second Vice-President of the Icelandic Sports Federation; and \u00dalfar Linnet, Chairman of the FH Athletics Department.<\/p>\n

Three leaders made honorary members<\/h4>\n

At the congress, three leaders of the movement who had been members for decades were made honorary members of FR\u00cd. They were Ragnhei\u00f0ur \u00d3lafsd\u00f3ttir, \u00deorsteinn \u00deorsteinsson and \u00der\u00e1inn Hafsteinsson. Various other honours were awarded. The honours will be discussed in more detail on Friday.is<\/a> <\/p>\n

New board elected<\/h4>\n

At the congress, 25 proposals for amendments to the regulations and statutes were approved. Due to the format of the congress, many were referred to the board or working committees.\u00a0 The congress elected a new board and committee chairs for the association. New to the main board is A\u00f0albj\u00f6rg Hafsteinsd\u00f3ttir, while Gu\u00f0laug Baldvinsd\u00f3ttir, Gunnar Svavarsson and K\u00e1ri Steinn Karlsson continue to serve. The association's chairman, Freyr \u00d3lafsson, was re-elected for the next two years. The congress also saw the introduction of a new logo and a modernised image for the new era.<\/p>\n
