The same rules will apply nationwide. The main change is a limit of 10 people, down from 20 previously. All sporting activities will be prohibited, as will the performing arts. The rules on the tightened measures are expected to be in place until and including 17 November. They will be reassessed depending on the situation, considering whether they can be lifted earlier or if an extension is necessary.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stjornarradid.is\/default.aspx?pageid=e5cf150d-33a7-11e6-80c7-005056bc217f&amp;newsid=6b1e0535-1aaf-11eb-8126-005056bc8c60\">See the announcement on the website of the Cabinet Office.&nbsp;<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>A memo from the Director of Public Health states that community transmission remains high, despite the tightened public health measures introduced on 20th October. There is therefore a risk that outbreaks will occur, placing even greater strain on an already heavily-burdened healthcare system. It is pointed out that Landsp\u00edtali is at a state of emergency due to high demand, and that a wide range of healthcare services have been postponed until 15 November. There is a heavy burden on the five quarantine facilities currently in operation, and there are more cases of illness among those in isolation there than at any other point in the pandemic. It is therefore the assessment of the Director of Public Health that stricter measures must be implemented to limit the spread of the virus and thus prevent serious consequences from COVID-19 and other illnesses.<\/p>\n<h2>Main limitations:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>All restrictions apply to the entire country.<\/li>\n<li>10-person limit is the general rule. Permission for 30 people at funerals, but a maximum of 10 at wakes. A maximum of 50 people in pharmacies and grocery shops, with rules for larger numbers based on the size of the premises. Capacity restrictions do not apply to public transport, coaches, domestic flights or emergency services. Capacity restrictions do not apply to the operations of the Government, the Council of State, the Althingi (Parliament) and the courts.<\/li>\n<li>The 10-person limit does not apply when multiple people live in the same household.<\/li>\n<li>Sports are forbidden. <\/li>\n<li>Swimming pools closed.<\/li>\n<li>Performing arts prohibited.<\/li>\n<li>Pubs and entertainment venues closed.<\/li>\n<li>Restaurants with a licence to sell alcohol must not be open later than 21:00.<\/li>\n<li>A requirement to wear a face covering where it is not possible to maintain a 2-metre distance between people who are not in close contact.<\/li>\n<li>Children born in 2015 and later are exempt from the 2-metre rule, capacity limits and the mask requirement (previously applied to children born in 2005 and later).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Exemptions:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A minister may grant an exemption from the restrictions for socially essential infrastructure that must not be halted.
