{"id":14547,"date":"2021-01-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-01-26T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hafnarfjordur.is\/samkomulag-um-husnaedi-fyrir-nutimabokasafn\/"},"modified":"2022-09-26T15:16:28","modified_gmt":"2022-09-26T15:16:28","slug":"agreement-on-housing-for-a-modern-library","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hafnarfjordur.is\/en\/samkomulag-um-husnaedi-fyrir-nutimabokasafn\/","title":{"rendered":"Agreement on premises for a modern library"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Major investment in the development of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur's town centre<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An agreement between 220 Fjar\u00f0ar and the Municipality of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur was signed recently, under which the Municipality of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur will be offered 1,200-1,500 m\u00b2 for lease or purchase.<sup>2<\/sup> Accommodation for a new library in a new city centre hub, which will be built at 26-30 Strandgata and connected to the existing shopping centre at 13-15 Fjar\u00f0argata.<\/p>\n<p>The investment company 220 Fj\u00f6r\u00f0ur intends to begin construction work to erect around 6,000 m<sup>2<\/sup> a retail and service building at Strandgata 26-30, which will connect to the Fj\u00f6r\u00f0 shopping centre. The service hub will offer all the core services that a good town centre needs to provide, such as a good supermarket, a post office, a health centre, banking services, a pharmacy, restaurants, and caf\u00e9s, as well as a modern library. The agreement provides for the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur to be handed over its portion of the building between 2023 and 2026, where it will erect a modern library that better meets the needs of its users and opens up new possibilities and opportunities for a wider range of services, media and socialising.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/hafnarfjordur.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/fj1.jpg\" alt=\"Fj1\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1592px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1592\/737;\" \/><sup>Different options for an extension to the Fj\u00f8r\u00f0 shopping centre are under consideration. <\/sup><\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/hafnarfjordur.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/fjolmidlunarsetur2.jpg\" alt=\"Media Centre 2\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1572px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1572\/633;\" \/>\n<p><em>\u201eWith this development, we are both responding to residents\u201c calls for increased services and retail, and to the growing demand for retail and commercial premises in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. This is a very ambitious project that will significantly increase retail and service space in the town centre, as well as improving residents' access to local shops and services. Talks have already begun with a major retail chain about opening a supermarket in the building. With the new building, we will finally be able to better connect Strandgata and Fjar\u00f0argata, thereby improving the flow of traffic through the town centre. The building is a cornerstone of the town centre's development. Exciting times lie ahead and hopefully we can get started as early as this year,\" <\/em>says Gudmundur Bjarni Har\u00f0arson, managing director of Fjar\u00f0ar.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201e<\/em><em>It will be a great boost for Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur when the building is completed and the range of diverse activities in the town continues to grow. The municipality is also taking an exciting step by deciding to move the library into this new premises, thereby contributing to the further development and strengthening of its services.\u201c<\/em> says R\u00f3sa Gu\u00f0bjartsd\u00f3ttir, Mayor of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.<\/p>\n<p>Construction on the new building is expected to begin in 2021.
